Genk is people’s work
Genk is people’s work – and that is what we are celebrating!
Today we are working hard to build the Genk of tomorrow. Innovative and ambitious plans will fundamentally change Genk in the coming years. Because Genk is not a classic city, but a network city or a city of neighbourhoods in the midst of greenery, it has special assets that can provide an answer to the major challenges we face today.
How do we prepare Genk for a changing climate with increasingly hot summers and wetter winters? How do we make Flanders' greenest city an attractive place to live for young families with children? Can we transform our neighbourhoods into energy-positive ones? What impulses do we give to the entrepreneurs who keep Genk running? Where do we make space for nature and water in the city? How do we organise living together in the country's first multicultural city? What new purpose can we give to valuable buildings? How do we make room in our neighbourhoods for sports, games and encounters?
In Genk, ambitious plans for the future are not made over people’s heads, but in close cooperation with the residents, who roll up their sleeves themselves. ‘Genk is People’s Work’ is therefore first and foremost an ode to the people of Genk who work day in and day out to make their city a better place to live, work, do business, stay and live together.
